Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the experience of the performance of the Korean Physician Assistant‘s duties.
Methods Data were collected through in-depth interviews with seven physician assistants. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method.
Results In this study, six categories composed thirteen theme clusters. The six categories were ‘Expectations for change and development,’ ‘Mental and physical exhaustion due to uncertainty of work,’ ‘Conflict with medical staff,’ ‘Pride of duty performance,’ ‘Anxiety about uncertain future’ and ‘Work area development of nurses.’
Conclusion: These results will contribute to the role establishment of physician assistant and the qualitative improvement of work by providing the grounds for the establishment of a physician assistant institution and the development of a systematic education program apposite to the case of Korea.
