Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the experience of the performance of the Korean Physician Assistant¡®s duties.
Methods Data were collected through in-depth interviews with seven physician assistants. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi¡¯s phenomenological method.
Results In this study, six categories composed thirteen theme clusters. The six categories were ¡®Expectations for change and development,¡¯ ¡®Mental and physical exhaustion due to uncertainty of work,¡¯ ¡®Conflict with medical staff,¡¯ ¡®Pride of duty performance,¡¯ ¡®Anxiety about uncertain future¡¯ and ¡®Work area development of nurses.¡¯
Conclusion: These results will contribute to the role establishment of physician assistant and the qualitative improvement of work by providing the grounds for the establishment of a physician assistant institution and the development of a systematic education program apposite to the case of Korea.
